It’s the end of my fourth week at Tech City UK and it’s been a hectic start! I’ve done a lot of research on where we can be adding more value and I’ve been to a lot of events to make sure I stay up to date too.
As well as this, we get a lot of inbound requests asking for specific help with individual companies and as much as we’d like to help, in order to scale effectively we have to focus our efforts on the programmes we run as we are a small team with limited resources.
However, I do want to ensure we maintain a good connection with the community and find out what help you need and what problems you’re having. So I’m going to start doing office hours, the first of which will take place on the 17th July, starting at 10:30am.
If you’re interested in coming along, please take a look at the below resources first, there’s loads of really good help out there (and from people a lot smarter than me)!
Please take a look at the Tech City UK resources section to see if your questions can be answered or helped there.
Also take a look at my website, which has a number of resources for early stage startups.
If you are looking for help on raising finance, we would suggest the following:
- There are a large range of accelerator and incubator programmes in the UK which offer help to early stage companies in terms of areas like raising investment, delivering product market fit and customer development. Examples include Tech Stars, Seedcamp, Startupbootca
mp, Mass Challenge, Barclays Accelerator, Dot Forge, Ignite 100, SETsquared and Codebase. You can find a longer list of accelerators here - Resources such as AngelList, f6S and The Funded can help in identifying angel and venture capital investors. Equally there are now a range of crowd funding platforms available including Crowdcube, Seedrs, and Kickstarter (a longer list is available here under Crowdfunding)
- It’s also helpful to read industry commentators and investors on raising finance. Some of our favourites include Mark Suster, Fred Wilson, Fred Destin, Josh Hannah, Steve Blank, Eric Ries
If you’ve taken a look at the above and think I have more to add, or you have feedback on a problem you see in the ecosystem, then you can book a 15 minute slot here. Once you have an appointment, please ping me a brief email on how I might be able to help on [email protected] (please include your time slot).
I’m looking forward to talking to you!
