Seedcamp, Europe’s top start-up accelerator, has announced its relocation to the Old Street roundabout at the heart of Tech City.
Seedcamp has joined the growing band of high-profile tech investors around the Old Street roundabout area, adding another big name to the burgeoning Tech City landscape which now boasts over 200 companies and counting.
Now occupying office space in Sophia House on Featherstone Street, which they share with EDITD – another recent arrival to the area – they are looking to use the strong community developing in Tech City to help establish an even stronger presence in the area.
Seedcamp was recently voted Europe’s top start-up accelerator by the Kaufmann Fellows Programme in the US, underscoring the notable successes it has achieved since its inception three and a half years ago.
Previously based in Mayfair since being founded in 2007, Seedcamp is a programme that each month connects 20 early stage (take out web) tech start-ups with over 60 highly experienced and sought after entrepreneurs, investors, marketers, product and developer experts. The 20 teams compete for seed funding, but most importantly, garner world-class connections and recognition in the European entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Reshma Sohoni, Partner and Co-Founder of Seedcamp, said:
“Since the tech community is moving east in droves – filling up the large office spaces around Old Street roundabout with shared offices, crowding the coffee shops with entrepreneurs, and basically claiming East London as the new tech cluster – we decided to take a look ourselves.
“So, we came up with a way to take advantage of the success of our Seedcamp family: EDITD just moved into a great new office, and we took the chance to take up one side of the space. Thus, we are now official Silicon Roundabouters, hoping to meet our neighbours and all the great companies being built around here. One additional benefit of relatively cheaper real estate, and we also have some room to host our companies, mentors, and investors during the time they are in London.
“We’ve already had the first of our monthly meetups, and we’re excited to now be part of the East London scene as well!”
