TCIO looking for new CEO

We’re looking for a new CEO for the Tech City Investment Organisation.

Our current CEO Eric Van der Kleij who has done a great job helping create the strategy and establishing the TCIO will be leaving in September to return to the private sector, and we are looking for a CEO candidate to take over the role when he departs.

Our mission is to support the growth of the tech cluster in East London, helping to make it Europe’s centre of innovation and the location of choice for tech and digital companies and investors. We aim to attract new companies and investors to East London, and to provide support to Tech City companies seeking to expand internationally.

We’re looking for a CEO who can help lead that mission. Everything we do is informed by what we hear from businesses already in Tech City and those who want to set up here – what challenges they face and what they need to help their businesses grow. The feedback we’ve received helped us shape our priorities for the year ahead: we have a clear focus on attracting FDI, introducing more VCs and angels to the cluster and raising the profile of the cluster and its companies nationally and internationally. Our CEO will lead our strategy, and in particular, be responsible for the development of the pipeline of major corporate inward investors and raising the international profile of Tech City.

In the coming weeks, a full recruitment ad will be posted and we’ll let you know when it’s available.

  1. I met Eric for the second time at the recent Digital Shoreditch Festival in London. The first time was at the SXSW Festival in Austin, Texas.

As a native of the East End of London, I’ve had a vested interest in this government initiative — from the first day that it was introduced.

I support the basic intent and objectives of the Tech City initiative. I admit, I’m a booster — encouraged by the upside potential and choose not to focus on any perceived negatives of the UK government’s role in supporting the tech cluster’s growth.

That being said, I’ll take this opportunity to personally thank Eric for his dedication and commitment towards this important cause. I wish him well.
