Google Campus and EE are key supporters of Tech City UK. Google Campus is home to about 100 start-ups daily and offers a skills programme for entrepreneurs, while EE have rolled out double speed 4G to turn Tech City UK into the World’s most connected tech hub.

Google

Google was one of the first multinational companies the Government met with to promote Tech City UK and the response has been spectacular.

Google set up Campus – a seven-storey building that’s not only a co-working space but also provides support via mentoring programmes and networking events for local and visiting start-ups.

In its first year Campus held over 850 start-up events, attracting more then 60,000 attendees. They’ve also helped more than 1,000 start-ups, with approximately 100 start-ups working from Campus every day, and there’s even an educational programme designed for early-stage entrepreneurs (called Campus EDU).

Tech City UK is delighted (and not at all surprised) to be the home of The Open Data Institute, an exciting Government project aimed at supporting business growth by sharing public sector datasets.

The brainchild of Sir Tim Berners-Lee and Professor Nigel Shadbolt of Southampton University, the ODI reflects the principles of information-sharing at the heart of the Web.

Gavin Starks, CEO of ODI, said:

“The ODI will enable organisations and individuals to: find and exploit untapped markets and business opportunities; explore and understand social and cultural trends and; experiment with ways of explaining this evolving ecosystem.”

Given the density of innovative start-ups in Tech City UK it’s not surprising that the hub has a club, and that it’s a little different.

In partnership with Barclays Bank, Central Working’s Shoreditch branch offers not just a thriving working space, but is actively helping members achieve their business goals by providing support, infrastructure and creating connections.

The Shoreditch club alone is expected to help more than 22,000 digital businesses over the next five years, to generate an estimated £350 million in combined revenue.

EE is the UK’s largest communications company and the pioneers of 4G in Britain. The company formally began its relationship with Tech City and the TCIO in May 2013.

The two organisations developed a shared ambition and vision, namely to use technology and innovation to help make Tech City the world’s largest and most successful centre for start-up businesses.

To do that, EE is building out the world’s most advanced mobile communications infrastructure across the area – including the world’s first and only 300Mbps 4G service.

In the six months that the two organisations have been working together, EE has already invested over £3.5m in improving the mobile infrastructure in the area. It means that businesses in East London can now get faster mobile internet speeds, enabling them to do more, deliver more, create more and connect more.
