Along with our partners, Innovate UK and Cambridge Wireless, we announced the seven winners of the Internet of Things (IoT) Launchpad competition in December.
The Launchpad comprises of four key elements: three rounds of applications; a Supplier Showcase event delivered by Cambridge Wireless; a set of business support activities from our corporate partners; and an Investor Day to be delivered next week.
Ahead of the Investor Day, we’re running a series of blog posts to give you an insight into each of the winners, who will be pitching their startup at the event.
Next in the series is Digital Shadows, a cyber intelligence company that protects organisations from data loss and targeted cyber attack. The company is based out of Level39 and recently raised $8m – a deal that was announced by Mayor of London Boris Johnson on a recent trade mission to New York.
As part of the IoT Launchpad competition, their project aim is to ‘identify, enumerate and attempt to mitigate’ the risks associated with building management and infrastructure systems that form part of the Internet of Things. Their missions statement stems from the fact that the wide range of devices utilised by Internet of Things can be insecure or misconfigured.
Digital Shadows will use its expertise to deliver a unique and automated prototype for enumerating these devices, a service which will be made commercially viable. Thus, helping to ‘secure the nation’s critical institutions’.
Alastair Paterson, CEO of Digital Shadows, commented “The IoT Launchpad competition has proved to be a great opportunity for us. In the past, SMART grants have allowed us to grow and develop our current offering and with the help of this competition, we hope to considerably expand our offering and contribute to the IoT industry along the way.”
