It’s hard to believe that the 2015 General Election is finally upon us. Political theatre and heated TV debates aside, today is vitally important not only for the tech community but to remind us all of the democratic principles that underpin our shared values.

Lets put the Grecian philosophising aside for today…it’s decision time for the British public.

However, the reality for Tech City UK is a little different. Billy Bragg’s chorus “Which Side Are You On?” doesn’t apply to us, we operate on a different set of principles. We’re politically agnostic and engage influencers from across the political spectrum. Over the past 12 months, we’ve met Cameron, Miliband and Clegg.

We work to make sure, you – the digital business builders – are heard and we ensure that the people in power, from whichever party they represent, are listening. For example, in February we charted the strength and depth of ‘Tech Nation‘ for the first time, which we know will be an essential tool for the next Government.

At this stage the outcome of the election is still incredibly difficult to predict. But from our perspective, one thing is crystal clear: we are here to serve you, no matter what the result. How do we do it? In three ways:

  • We deliver programmes across most of the lifecycle stages of a digital business to enable them to reach their next stage of growth
  • We provide an agile and direct feedback loop to policymakers, ensuring the unique needs of digital businesses are heard and understood
  • We advocate for and promote the UK’s thriving digital clusters at home and abroad

As soon as we know who will be holding the keys to No 10, the team will plough full steam ahead with targeted engagement to ensure the needs and wants of the digital business community are at the forefront of newly elected minds.

Very best,
Gerard
CEO, Tech City UK
