The Forum brings together the UK’s most influential early stage investors and high growth start-ups for a day of thought-leadership debate and networking in the heart of London.
Each year the UK Business Angels Association annual winter event attracts over 300 angels and early stage investment players, focusing on key topics and trends that face the industry today.

Simon Devonshire:
Founder of One Water and Director of Telefónica’s Wayra Europe startup accelerator programme. Simon is an Angel Investor and stakeholder in six small businesses, three of which have multi-million revenues. He is currently appointed as Entrepreneur-in-Residence for the UK Government.
Gerard Grech:
Gerard is CEO of Tech City UK and has nearly 15 years’ experience in the world of digital media, web and mobile. Previously head of global marketing for Blackberry World and Nokia, where he ran the app strategy and portfolio development team and assessed equity investment opportunities for Nokia Growth Partners, Nokia’s venture arm, in London.
Andy Chung:
Head of AngelList Europe, a US company aiming to revolutionise how start-ups fundraise, acquire the best talent and evolve into great companies. This October, AngelList announced a $400m seed fund raised to co-invest alongside the platform’s syndicate investments. Andy is also a mentor at TechStars and Founder of Lean Ventures.
Rytis Vitkauskas:
Co-Founder & CEO of YPlan which is the first mobile event discovery and booking service (and #1 fastest growing tech start-up in 2014, according to The Next Web). Rytis started his entrepreneurial career at the age of 14 and, prior to conceiving Yplan, was VP of Software and Technology Investments at Summit Partners
Alex Depledge:
Founder and CEO of Hassle.com since 2013 – which was acquired by Berlin-based Helpling for €32 million to dominate on-demand cleaner space in Europe. In 2014 Alex was named TechCity’s ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ and in 2015 was FDM’s Everywoman in Technology ‘Start-up Founder of the Year’. Alex is Chair of the Coalition for a Digital Economy (Coadec).
Simon Murdoch:
Managing Partner at Episode 1 Ventures, a £37.5m Enterprise Capital Fund dedicated to investing in early stage tech businesses across the UK. A highly experienced tech investor, with previous investments including Shazam and Zoopla, Simon was also a founding and managing partner of Chase Episode 1 – a $100m fund raised to invest in startup and early stage Internet and technology businesses.
David Norris:
Partner at Forward Partners, specialising in early stage UK e-commerce startups, David has a wealth of experience in digital business strategy and planning spanning 20 years. He has previously served as COO to high growth venture-backed ecommerce businesses including HouseTrip and Bookatable.
Claire Braithwaite:
Head of Tech North, set up as part of Tech City UK to spur growth in Northern England’s digital economy. In 2005 Claire founded LoveLula.com, a specialist online retail platform to promote and market sustainable beauty brands. Prior to Tech North, she was CFO/COO at ClearlySo, a financial intermediary and Angel investor network focusing on tech businesses that generate social impact.
Andy Phillipps:
Co-founder of Active Hotels, which he later sold to Booking.com, Andy then became chairman of Toptable, which was sold to Opentable in 2010. Andy has been an Angel Investor since 2005, investing in over 30 startups, including seed investment in Zoopla, YPlan, Reevo and CCS to name a few. He is a member of Cambridge Angels.
Russ Shaw:
Founder and CEO of Tech London Advocates since 2013, which brings together senior tech leaders who aim to accelerate the growth of London’s tech sector. Russ is also an active Angel Investor and is currently non-executive director for Dialog and Unwire. He sits on the advisory boards of the LetterOne Technology Fund and E2Exchange.
Michael Blakey:
Serial Angel Investor, successfully investing since 2000 in over 20 business, having realised 3 profitable exits to date. Michael was named UK Business Angels Association Investor of the Year 2015-16. Michael now spends his time between UK and Singapore where he is developing cross-border investing opportunities in the South East Asian tech markets.
