Liverpool is a city with a long-established gaming heritage. This heritage has attracted very large companies in the past, with Sony taking over Psygnosis, (a racing game development company) in 1984.

Since then, Liverpool’s games development sector has continued to grow and was identified as one of the cluster’s most notable sectors. Alongside Games Development, both Software Development and Advertising & Marketing were the top three most prominent types of digital business in the Tech Nation report.

With that said, IoT and HealthTech are also becoming more and more popular with young developers and entrepreneurs in the area. Kevin McManus, Investment Manager at Liverpool Vision, is excited for the future, commenting, “Liverpool has the beginnings of an eHealth and tele-care cluster. We have a chance to steal a march on other UK cities in this field.”

With regards to property, there are a number of agencies and organisations set up in order to assist digital businesses, entrepreneurs and makers. Baltic Triangle, Liverpool DoES, Launch22 and Liverpool Science and Innovation Park all provide space for individuals and businesses looking to create and begin new adventures.

Liverpool has seen a rise of 119% in digital companies incorporated between 2010-2013, with almost 10,000 people now employed in digital business in the cluster.
